畍asan Ma畍m笛d Ktib (d. after 640/1243) was an Ismaili poet. Born near Qazv朝n, he was alive when Imam 畍asan of Alam笛t (d. 561/1166) proclaimed his doctrine of 援庄霞偵馨温岳 or spiritual resurrection in 559/1164. He was a secretary of the governor of the fortress of Gird K笛h, Shihb al-D朝n, whom he later followed to Quhistn. Around 630/1232 he was in Alam笛t, preparing a copy of the diwan whose surviving fragments are published here, to be offered to the Imam of the IsmailisAdherents of a branch of Shi’i Islam that considers Ismail, the eldest son of the Shi’i Imam Ja平far al-畊diq (d. 765), as his successor. at the time, 平Al幣 al-D朝n Mu畍ammad (d. 653/1255). 畍asan Ma畍m笛d was well-versed in the intellectual and spiritual universe of Nizr朝 Ismailism as recorded, inter alia, in Na畊Ｄr al-D朝n 畊笛s朝s (d. 672/1274) Raw畍a-yi tasl朝m Sayr wa sul笛k, and ghz wa anjm. The present diwan contains the most complete contemporary catalogue of the terminology used in expressing Nizr朝 Ismaili doctrine, surpassing even the works of 畊笛s朝, N畊ir Khusraw (d. after 462/1070) and Nizr朝 Quhistn朝 (d. 720/1320).
